Firefighters rescued a man who caused the fire when he used fireworks in his Charleston apartment.
Charleston Capt. Justin Alford told WOWK that the man threw fireworks at rats in the Kanawha City building Saturday night.
Firefighters had to rescue the man from a second floor apartment, according to Metro News.
The fire damaged one unit in the four unit, two-story building. Officials said half of the building was vacant.
He was transported to the hospital with smoke inhalation.
