Former Whiteland firefighter Jake Dougherty plead guilty on felony arson charges in connection with three house fires.

A plea agreement will keep a former Whiteland firefighter out of prison on arson charges.

Jake Dougherty was pulled over in June 2020 for impaired driving and that's when police noticed his clothes were covered in soot and they could smell gasoline.

According to WTHR.com, investigators determined that he set fire to two homes under construction in Greenwood and another in Whiteland.

Dougherty was sentenced to 12 years, with 10 years on work release and two on probation after pleading guilty to three felony counts of arson.

He was ordered to pay the construction companies $151,000.
