SILVERTON, Colo.
--
An early-morning fire destroyed two historic buildings in Silverton Wednesday.
It took fire crews eight hours to gain control of a fire that required three fire departments to battle.
Mike Maxfield, assistant chief of the Silverton Fire Department, said the fire destroyed the two-story brick structures that housed the Pride of the West saloon and the neighboring building that was home to Adelaide's Antiques, on the 1300 block of Greene Street.
Maxfield said the age and the architecture of the buildings posed a challenge for firefighters.
It was a very complicated fire because you couldnt access the points in between the roof structures, he said.
The fire was reported by a witness at about 7:22 a.m. No injuries were reported.
Maxfield said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Silverton is a small town in the southwest part of the state, nestled in the San Juan Mountains.
