OMAHA, Neb. --
A fire destroyed a home near 45th and Blondo Streets just before 7 p.m. Sunday night. Strong winds spread the flames to trees and neighboring homes.
"I seen the whole sky turn orange," neighbor Mike Fielding said. Fielding said he was the first to call 911.
Dozens of people who live in the area marveled at the fast-spreading flames. One woman snapped photos with her cell phone camera.
"Oh everybody is going to be talking about this for a while, because it's quiet around here, we don't have this kind of stuff," the woman said.
Omaha firefighters, with the help of Omaha Police, closed down the Northwest Radial and several other streets in the area for about an hour.
Firefighters had the fire almost entirely under control in about 30 minutes.
Omaha Assistant Fire Chief Steve Ausdemore said the fire completely destroyed the vacant home where it started. It caused minor damage to four neighboring homes.
Ausdemore said the department has not yet determined a cause of the fire. There were no injuries reported.
