PENN TOWNSHIP, Pa.
--
Three men accused of sparking a fire in Westmoreland County waived their right to a hearing on Tuesday.
"I think it was out of character for all three of them. I hope that we get it made whole and these kids can get on with their lives," said defense attorney David Regoli.
Penn Township police said Eric Penska, Jeffrey Caprino and Jaime Wright admitted to setting the fire on Baker School Road in March.
Police said the three men lit newspaper inside a vacant home on fire and threw it onto a living room couch, causing an estimated $10,000 in damages.
"They paid restitution, they're remorseful. It's one of those things you see nice kids in the wrong place," said defense attorney Ed Bilik.
Police said Penska, 21, who is a volunteer firefighter for Irwin Borough, called 911 to report the fire.
WTAE Channel 4 Action News' Jennifer Miele reported that Penska has been suspended from the fire department and could face expulsion.
After waiving their right to a hearing, Miele reported that the trio will likely enter into a plea agreement.
