The arsons are believed to have started in March of 2003. Thirty-one cases have been identified as similar in nature and eleven have been conclusively linked through physical evidence. The Arson Task force continues to request the assistance of the public in solving this series of arsons.
Investigators have also been working with an ATF behavioral profiler who specializes in the study of arson and explosives. Based on research and hundreds of hours of investigation, the Arson Task Force believes that the individual(s) responsible for the arsons may demonstrate certain personality traits that can help us identify him.
This list of traits and characteristics is not considered all-inclusive and the public should not discount an individual they suspect if he does not have or display all of these traits.
People who know the offender will likely notice these traits and characteristics:
- He may abuse alcohol
- He may engage in reckless driving or unsafe practices at work.
- He may have a criminal history
- When things go wrong in his life, he likely projects blame onto others or situations outside himself. It is never his fault.
- He likely lies a great deal and his dishonesty causes him problems in his interpersonal relationships.
- He lacks what would be considered normal empathy or concern for the rights or welfare of others.
- He has difficulty controlling and dealing with anger. Often times, his anger may be inappropriate and explosive.
It is very likely that someone who knows this arsonist may recognize him from the above traits and characteristics.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Arson Task Force. A reward of up to $25,000 is available for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for these arsons.
