Jan. 30-- The bodies of a man and a toddler found in a burning home have been taken to the state medical examiner's office. Their identities have not been released, Norman fire Deputy Chief Jim Bailey said.
Firefighters responded to a single-story house fire about 3:25 a.m. Wednesday. Firefighters found the garage totally involved with heavy fire conditions in the attic and heavy smoke throughout the structure, Bailey said.
They searched the home and found a 2-year-old girl in the living room. She was taken by ambulance to Norman Regional Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. A man found in the garage was pronounced dead at the scene.
It took fire crews 40 minutes to contain the fire with crews remaining on scene for several more hours extinguishing hot spots. The preliminary damage is estimated to be $135,000.
The fire is under investigation by the Norman fire marshal's office.
The girl, who is about 2, and a man in his 20s were found about 3:30 a.m. inside a burning house at 2705 Richardson Drive, fire Deputy Chief Jim Bailey said.
Bailey said the toddler was found in a living room area. The man was found in another room. The house was heavily involved in fire when crews arrived, Bailey said.
He could not confirm the relationship of the man to the girl.
A cause has not been determined and is under investigation, Bailey said. The fire caused significant damage to the house.
