New Orleans firefighters battled a restaurant fire in the French Quarter Wednesday afternoon.
Crews called for a second alarm shortly initial size-up as heavy smoke was visible from all three stories.
They were concerned of the nearby structures and the potential for injuries of people who lived in apartments above Fiorella's Restaurant, a masonry building.
The smoke spread quickly through the restaurant and extended to the two adjacent mixed-occupancy structures at 1140 and 1132 Decatur St. A third-alarm was struck to bring additional staffing to the scene.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the initial fire building as others performed primary searches of all businesses and apartments involved to ensure there were no residents or workers in danger.
Adjacent buildings did not have any fire damage, but did suffer smoke damage.
Workers said the fire started in the kitchen while they were cooking and prepping for the day.
