The father of a 5-year-old boy who died inside a burning Vallejo home Sunday was suspected of starting the fire that led to the boy's death and injured the child's mother and a teenage boy.
Vallejo police announced at a news conference Monday they are searching for the man, identified as 53-year-old Darrylone Shuemake Sr.
He was suspected of setting a two-alarm fire in the 800 block of Stella Street while his son was trapped inside.
Fire crews arrived around 10 a.m. As heavy smoke and flames billowed from the home, neighbors who reported the emergency told dispatchers a child was trapped inside the home, fire officials said.
Several neighbors tried, unsuccessfully, to get inside the house to save the child, and crews made an "aggressive interior attack" to find him, the Fire Department said.
The child's mother, 45, suffered second- and third-degree burns, and a 13-year-old boy sustained minor burns, police said.
Fire officials declined to release the victims' names, citing privacy laws.
The fire was put out shortly after crews arrived.
