HOUSTON --

A boy suffered serious burns when his family's car caught fire on Sunday, KPRC Local 2 reported.

The family was checking out low-rider cars at Tom Bass Park in southwest Houston. The boy was in his family's car when its trunk caught fire.

Houston firefighters said the flames spread to the rest of the car. Investigators said the fire may have started in hydraulics in the trunk.

The 3-year-old suffered burns over 35 percent of his body. The boy's father suffered burns on his arms when he tried to rescue his son.

The car was destroyed.
