SOUTHFIELD, Mich. --

A Southfield firefighter was injured when he fell through the floor of a home near 8 Mile Road where he was battling a blaze.

The fire started in the basement of 19660 Dorsett St. in Southfield at about 10:30 a.m.

The firefighter fell through the kitchen floor up to his waist and was exposed to the flames in the basement, according to a Southfield fire official.

He was taken to Providence Hospital for observation but is expected to be fine.

"If he was burned at all, it was very minor on his ankle," said Bat. Chief Dean Masser.

His name has not been released.

There were no other injuries in the fire.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
