Philadelphia Firefighters Rescue Four from Blaze

Three toddlers and two adult were rescued by Philadelphia firefighters at an apartment fire in north Philadelphia yesterday afternoon.

Just before 2 PM (5/25) firefighters were called to the 2100 block of North 33rd Street near Susquehanna Avenue in Strawberry Mansion for a report of an apartment fire with people trapped.

Firefighters arrived on the scene with fire coming from a top floor unit of a four-story apartment building with people trapped.

As firefighters were making their way to the top floor to battle the fire, firefighters from Ladder 12 arrived in the rear of the building with people hanging out of a top floor window calling for help.

With heavy smoke coming from top floor Lt. Grover of Ladder 12 with firefighters John Delussi, C. Kenyatta and Mike Sweeny used a 50 feet ladder to rescue three small children and two adults.

They were transported to a local hospital suffering minor smoke inhalation Two firefighters also required treatment for minor injuries.

It took firefighters about 45 minutes to being the fire under control.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
