HENDERSON, Ky. (AP) -- Two people were injured in an explosion at a plant in Henderson.
The blast caused a fire at Shamrock Technologies Thursday afternoon. Henderson Fire Chief Terry Lewis said the injuries weren't major.
''One man had some burns (non life-threatening) and another man had cuts and bruises,'' he said.
Getting control of the fire was difficult for fire crews, Lewis said, since the explosion is believed to have occurred while employees were in the process of turning bulk wax into powder.
Shamrock Technologies takes things such as Teflon, wax, ink and grease and turns it into ''fine particles,'' Lewis said.
Firefighters responded to the plant at 109 N. McKinley St., shortly after 1 p.m. The fire got so hot it melted a portion of the steel outer shell of the building.
About an hour after the explosion, firefighters were still trying to extinguish flames that had extended into the roof and into the walls. The fire is believed to have been caused by a ''mechanical malfunction,'' Lewis said.
