Mom Hands Over Newborn to Texas Firefighters

Baby girl, possibly an hour old, taken to hospital for observation.

A woman dropped off a newborn baby at a fire station south of downtown Thursday morning.

San Antonio Fire Department officials said the woman, who is the baby's mother, told firefighters at Fire Station 11 in the 600 block of South Frio that she couldn't care for the child, who was believed to be only an hour-old.

The baby was taken to a hospital for observation.

The mother is not expected to face charges because she met the criteria for the state's Baby Moses Law, which protects people who drop off infants younger than 60 days at safe havens, such as fire stations and hospitals.
