GLEN BURNIE, Md. --
What started out as a relatively minor fire in Glen Burnie Monday revealed an entire cache of stolen metal, including an interesting piece of art.
Firefighters were called to the 7800 block of Cheverly Lane Monday to fight flames at a home, but one fire investigator called police when he saw what was inside.
"He found some suspicious items, such as firearms and metals, which he thought might possibly be stolen," said John Gilmer of the Anne Arundel County police.
Police said they seized from the home welding cables, blue armored metal casing, trash bags with rubber insulation, numerous tanks of R-22 refrigerant, weapons, air conditioner coils, copper tubing, a gas tank from a Peterbilt tractor trailer and a metal eagle that was about 4 feet tall with a wing span of about 10 feet.
Police said they couldn't find any markings on the eagle to determine ownership. Anyone who might recognize it is asked to call police so they can get it back to its proper owner.
Officers were able to use the serial numbers on some of the metals to determine that they were stolen. Police said many of the items were taken from construction sites and commercial buildings.
No one at the home would comment on the fire or the seized items.
Charges are pending.
