Ohio Departments Battle Rubber Warehouse Fire

A half-dozen fire departments from Auglaize and Shelby Counties were called to help put out a massive warehouse fire early Friday morning.

Officials said a half-dozen fire departments from Auglaize and Shelby Counties were called to help put out a massive warehouse fire early Friday morning.

Flames were seen around 3 a.m. at what was once the Auglaize Lumber Company on Willipie Street, southeast of the downtown business district.

The Koneta Rubber Company uses the building to store bales of rubber. The business manufactures rubber mudflaps for trucks, other truck accessories, and rubber mates for industrial uses.

Officials said they were able to contain the fire and were glad it didn't spread.

No one was hurt in the blaze, but the building was heavily damaged.

The state fire marshal's office is aiding in the search for the cause of the fire.

Wapakoneta Fire Chief Kendall Krites expects the damages to be extensive, but an estimate is yet to be tabulated.
