MONTREAL (CP) -- Two city firefighters suffered burns to their hands and face trying to fight a chemical fire at a plant on Friday.

They were in stable condition and should recover, said a fire department spokesman.

Two other firefighters and another person were taken to hospital with breathing difficulties. Five other people were treated at the scene.

The small fire broke out at a printing-plate plant in northeastern Montreal when magnesium was being used, the spokesman said.

Firefighters were waiting for a special powder to help put out the fire because water wasn't able to douse it, he said.
