Fourteen members of the Secaucus Volunteer Fire Department who have refused to attend mandatory sensitivity training have been placed on the department's inactive list
SECAUCUS-Fourteen members of the Secaucus Volunteer Fire Department who have refused to attend mandatory sensitivity training have been placed on the department's inactive list, Town Administrator Anthony Iacono said this week.

The training was ordered by Fire Chief Frank Walters one day after a gay couple went public with allegations that the members of the North End Fire Company, Engine 2, had been regularly harassing them. The couple, Peter de Vries and Timothy Carter, who live on Schopmann Drive just next door to the firehouse, said they had been targeted because of their sexual orientation.
