TAYLORS ISLAND, Md. -- An elderly Dorchester County man was killed and his daughter was injured in a fire in a trailer that had been their home since Tropical Storm Isabel last fall.
George Reese, 93, and his daughter Deanna Reese were in the trailer when the fire started early Wednesday, authorities said. Deanna Reese managed to escape but suffered smoke inhalation and other injuries. She was flown to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center's burn center and was in fair condition Thursday. Authorities did not know her age.
George Reese was found by the door of the trailer, an apparent victim of smoke inhalation.
The two had been living in a trailer provided by the Federal Emergency Management Administration while their home was being repaired, Dorchester County Emergency Management Planning Director Wayne Robinson said.
Repairs were nearly complete and the Reeses were preparing to move back into their house next to the trailer, according to their neighbors. That home, located near the trailer, was slightly damaged by the fire.
