PURCELL, Mo. -- A house fire killed a mother and her two children early Monday. Investigators say a faulty flue on a wood-burning stove may have caused the fire.
The Tri-County Fire Department arrived at the home shortly after midnight and found the front half of the older wood frame, single story home already blazing with intense flames that kept firefighters at least 30 feet away. Mike Garrett, a firefighter and board member for Tri-County, said it was one of the hottest fires that he has fought.
