Firefighters battled a three-alarm fire in Brooklyn overnight. But the early morning blaze gave residents forced out of their building quite a scare.
The fire happened at the Washington Court Apartment Building. It was a very active scene, but firefighters got this fire under control quickly.
The fire broke out in one of the ceilings of a fourth-floor apartments and then quickly spread. Firefighters basically contained the fire to about five apartments and there about 12 apartments on the fourth floor. There are a total of 48 apartments in the building. But due to the hard work of the firefighters, they managed to keep it from spreading.
When residents smelled smoke, they quickly got out of the building and only one suffered minor injuries.
Resident: "My brother woke me up and I smelled the strong smoke. I got out of the building."
Ronald Spadafora, FDNY: "The fire started up in the ceiling area in one of the top floor apartments in the front. The fire eventually got into five apartments, three in the A-wing and two in the B-wing."
The American Red Cross is here taking care of the residents that have been displaced from this fire. They don't know how many residents were affected by this fire. Residents just say they are anxious to see what the damage is.
Fire officials do now know what caused the fire. The fire marshal is on the scene completing the investigation. Two firefighters suffered minor injuries in this fire.
