November 24, 2003 -- Firefighters battled for half an hour yesterday to control a blaze at Dunkin' Donuts on East 42nd Street, preventing the fire from spreading to other stores.
"The blaze was quickly put out by the firemen, but there was so much smoke we had to exit the restaurant," said a cook from the next-door TGI Friday's.
The fire apparently started above the refrigeration unit in the basement of Dunkin' Donuts at 41 E. 42nd St. at 11:30 a.m., firefighters said.
Firefighters said the cause is under investigation, but it does not appear suspicious. No one was injured.
