MORRISVILLE, N.C. (AP) -- A Continental Airlines flight headed to Bogota, Colombia, from New Jersey made an emergency landing here Wednesday evening after the crew reported smoke in the cockpit.

The Boeing 757 landed safely at Raleigh-Durham International Airport. None of the 146 passengers or eight crew members on Flight 880 was injured, airport officials said.

After the flight left Newark, N.J., the crew reported an engine malfunction and smoke in the cockpit. "By the time it landed there was no physical sign of fire,'' said Teresa Damiano, the airport's marketing director.

Continental had not yet investigated the malfunction because the airline was focusing on making arrangements for passengers, airport spokeswoman Mindy Hamlin said late Wednesday.
