A fire in a vacant building in Charleroi late Sunday night left one firefighter with a minor injury, the fire chief said this afternoon.
The blaze broke out on the 300 block of McKean Avenue about 11:30 p.m. Sunday, a Washington County dispatch supervisor said. It was fierce, taking firefighters from 10 fire departments about 90 minutes to put out.
One firefighter injured an ankle.
"He was going up on the ladder truck in smoke and fire conditions and the ladder moved one way and he thought it was moving the other and twisted his ankle," said Charleroi fire Chief Robert Whiten.
The building used to be a hotel but has been vacant for at least five years.
The fire marshal has determined that the cause of the fire is "undetermined but suspicious," Chief Whiten said.
