April 21--One person was taken to the hospital Saturday night after a fire broke out on the sixth floor of the nine-story Lake Crest apartment building, 1732 N. Prospect Ave.
Others were evacuated from the building.
When firefighters arrived at the scene about 9:30 p.m., flames were shooting out of a sixth-floor window. The woman who lived in the apartment fled down a smoky stairwell where she was met by firefighters, said Deputy Chief Aaron Lipski. She was taken to St. Mary's Hospital with minor injuries.
Most of the residents of the building were allowed to return to their apartments after the blaze was extinguished about 10 p.m.
