The Helena West Valley Fire Rescue chief arrested for attacking a police officer during the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol has resigned.

Frank Dahlquist, 45, a former Seattle firefighter, was placed on home detention by a federal magistrate judge in Great Falls, KTVH reported.

The judge ruled Dahlquist is allowed, however, to leave his residence for his job, religious services and medical needs.

He was arrested last week by the FBI on a number of felony charges including civil disorder and assaulting officers who were attempting to quell the insurrection at the Capitol in 2021. He was captured on video spraying police with an orange substance.

"Dahlquist was captured in video footage throwing a piece of lumber over his shoulder, up into the air and towards a group of law enforcement officers. However, the lumber did not strike the officers, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office
