Heart Attack Claims New Jersey Firefighter In February

According to Assistant Fire Chief James Petrecca, Galderisi returned to the firehouse after responding to a false alarm. At approximately 3:30 p.m., he suffered a heart attack after re-packing a fire hose that shifted on the apparatus. Fellow firefighters Gavin Phillips and Bill Klein were at the firehouse when Galderisi became unconscious. They immediately administered oxygen and performed CPR until police and first aid units arrived. Galderisi was a long time resident of the community. He worked full time as a special police officer with the Wayne Police Department. He had been a volunteer firefighter with Wayne Fire Company #3 for thirty-two years. During his long tenure, he served as a fire chief, a fire commissioner, and was a lifetime member of the department.
