According to Assistant Fire Chief James Petrecca, Galderisi returned to the firehouse after responding to a false alarm. At approximately 3:30 p.m., he suffered a heart attack after re-packing a fire hose that shifted on the apparatus. Fellow firefighters Gavin Phillips and Bill Klein were at the firehouse when Galderisi became unconscious. They immediately administered oxygen and performed CPR until police and first aid units arrived. Galderisi was transported to Saint Joseph's Hospital in Wayne, New Jersey where he was pronounced dead at 5 p.m. Glenn Galderisi, 53, a volunteer firefighter with The Wayne Fire Company # 3, Pompton Falls Volunteer Fire Department, suffered a heart attack while on duty at the firehouse February 4.
Galderisi was a long time resident of the community. He worked full time as a special police officer with the Wayne Police Department. He had been a volunteer firefighter with Wayne Fire Company #3 for thirty-two years. During his long tenure, he served as a fire chief, a fire commissioner, and was a lifetime member of the department.
