ALCOVA, Wyo. (AP) -- Firefighters have gained about 65 percent containment on a wildfire in a remote area just east of Pathfinder Reservoir in central Wyoming.

The Pyramid Peak fire, located about 2 miles east of the reservoir and about 35 miles southwest of Casper, has burned some 240 acres of old growth ponderosa pine and juniper since lightning started it Tuesday.

As a helicopter dropped water on the fire and 115 firefighters battled it on the ground, the number of homes threatened by the fire fell Thursday from 40 to 10, according to the U.S. Bureau of Land Management.

Full containment was thought possible Saturday.
