Chicago Firefighter Injured During Extra-Alarm Blaze

Around 120 Chicago Fire Department personnel and five ambulances responded to the fire, which damaged at least four buildings in the city's Belmont Central neighborhood.

Chicago firefighters battled an extra-alarm blaze that damaged at least four buildings in the Belmont Central neighborhood Wednesday.

An extra-alarm fire broke out, hitting at least four buildings in the Belmont Central neighborhood Wednesday afternoon, according to the Chicago Fire Department.

The fire began a little before 2:20 p.m. in the 2400 block of North Mason Avenue, according to Fire Department spokesman Larry Merritt.

At least four buildings were affected by the fire, according to the Fire Department. Photos from the scene showed several frame residential buildings with vinyl siding badly damaged.

No injuries were reported, but about 120 personnel and five ambulances were responding to the scene. The cause of the fire was not immediately known, Merritt said.

One firefighter was taken to the hospital with injuries that weren't life-threatening, according to the department.
