MA Firefighters Rescue Two from 2-Alarm Residential Blaze

Two residents climbed out of a second-floor window to the roof of an exterior porch where Worcester firefighters were able to get them safely to the ground during a two-alarm blaze.

Worcester firefighters rescued two residents from a blaze early Saturday and a third resident was taken to the hospital, officials said.

The two-alarm fire was reported just after 3:45 a.m. at 2 Ford St., according to the Worcester Fire Department.

A man who lives on the first floor called in the fire and was out of the building by the time firefighters arrived, said department spokesman Deputy Chief Martin Dyer.

That man was taken to UMass Memorial Medical Center. The extent of his injuries was not immediately clear.

Two other residents tried to get out but were not able to exit the first floor. They climbed out a second-floor window to the roof of an exterior porch, where firefighters used a ladder to help get them safely to the ground, Dyer said.

The fire remains under investigation but does not appear to be suspicious, Dyer said.
