Several other people were rescued by D.C. firefighters.

A woman suffered serious injuries in an apartment fire Sunday morning.

She made it out of the building on her own, but sustained life-threatening burns, WTOP reported, quoting Vito Maggiolo, DC Fire and EMS spokesperson.

A man was also taken to the hospital but he’s expected to be OK.

Maggiolo said firefighters could see smoke pouring from the five-story building as well as several residents in the windows clearly in distress.

Crews rescued some of those occupants using ladders as they worked to put out the fire, which engulfed an entire apartment unit on the fourth floor.

DC fire officials lauded the drivers of the tiller truck.

"Who said it couldn't be done? With people reported hanging out windows on Park Rd NW, perseverance & training paid off as Truck 4 maneuvered into a narrow alley & raised their aerial ladder to the rear of the building. It’s also a tribute to the versatility of tiller apparatus," officials tweeted.
