Illinois firefighters rescued a woman from the top floor of a six-floor apartment building during a fire Wednesday that sent five people to the hospital, including a firefighter.
Richton Park crews responded to a fire that broke out on the fourth floor of the Park Towers Apartment Homes, WBBM-TV reports. Smoke also could be seen pouring out apartments on the fifth and sixth floors.
Firefighters used an aerial to reach one woman who was in a sixth-floor apartment. Another occupant also was rescued by ladder from one of the upper floors.
One person suffered serious injuries after jumping from the fourth floor. Three other occupants were taken to the hospital with smoke inhalation.
A firefighter suffered heat exhaustion during the call and was taken to the hospital, as well.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
