Units of the City of Santa Clara Fire Department responded to multiple calls of smoke coming from the attic space and roof of a vacant single-story office complex at 3600 Pruneridge Avenue at approximately 2:35 PM on Monday, July 10, 2006.
Santa Clara Police arrived on the scene first and confirmed that the structure was well involved with heavy smoke and flames beginning to show from the roof and vents. As firefighters arrived an aggressive interior attack was mounted. After the fire began to spread through the attic space Battalion Chief William Kelly issued a vacate order and switched to a defensive strategy.
A second and third alarms were struck bringing mutual aid units from Sunnyvale Fire, San Jose Fire and Santa Clara County Fire to the scene. According to Department spokesman Dave Parker over 50 firefighters were required to finally extinguish the blaze.

The cause of the fire is considered suspicious and remains under investigation. There were no reports of injuries and fire units remain on scene to prevent any flare ups.
