At 8:20 pm Tuesday night, December 13, 2005, a fire was discovered in a newly remodeled and just opened business in downtown Preston.
Franklin County Fire District units responding to the call faced heavy fire and smoke conditions and transmitted a mutual aid alarm to neighboring stations of the Cache County Fire District in Northern Utah.
CCFD stations in Lewiston and Richmond responded engine companies and personnel on the first mutual aid alarm, followed by a second mutual aid alarm to Cache County for a ladder truck. The ladder assignment was filled by Truck 120 of North Logan.
Due to the fire conditions in the building of origin - flames at times reaching 100 feet into the night sky - a defensive stance was taken and firefighters worked to prevent extension to the adjacent businesses in the commercial row structure that extended the entire block.
Franklin County Fire District officials reported that the fire appears to have been contained to the building of origin, but there will likely be smoke and water damage to the adjoining businesses.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
