La Crosse, FL - Shortly after 9 pm, on Sunday night, units from La Crosse Volunteer Fire Department and Alachua County Fire Rescue responded to a fully involved mobile home fire in northeast Alachua County.

Just minutes after the first units arrived, the roof collapsed and ammunition stored in the home began to cook off. Nevertheless, firefighters successfully protected the outbuildings and trees surrounding the home, extinguishing the fire by 9:57 pm and continuing with overhaul until after 1:00 am.

Although the residence was completely destroyed, no one was at home at the time of the blaze and no firefighters were injured by the collapsing roof or exploding ammunition.
