In the early morning hours of July 4, Cherryvale, Kan. Fire Rescue responded to a working structure fire on North Liberty street.
An off-duty Cherryvale firefighter saw the fire and called 911. He then went to the door and alerted the occupants of the home and helped them to evacuate. He was also able to alert the neighbors as the fire was growing quickly and he was concerned about the exposures.
Upon arrival of 501, the first due engine, the crew initiated a blitz attack with the deck gun and moved lines in place to protect exposures. about the exposures.
The fire was under control within 10 minutes, but with extensive overhaul crews remained on scene for four hours. The house is a total loss, but the occupants were able to salvage much of their belongings.
