LOUISVILLE, Ky. --
Harrison County Councilman William Nichols has died after being hurt in a farm accident that left him with burns over 80 percent of his body.
Lanesville fire chief Anthony Combs says Nichols was driving a forklift on his farm Thursday evening when he ran over a gas can in the driveway.
The forklift caught on fire, leaving Nichols with second- and third-degree burns. He was flown to University Hospital in Louisville, but died Friday morning.
A retired excavation contractor and a school bus driver, Nichols was first elected to the council in 2006. The Democrat was running for office again in November after winning his May primary.
