Akron police and the fire department's Hazardous Materials Team responded to the burning dump truck at 1677 Home Ave. shortly before noon. Fire officials said it was an engine compartment fire, but the cause is still unknown.
Truck driver Charles Hammond of CBS Trucking was not injured. No estimated loss has been determined.
Police and fire officials said initial reports were that a dump truck was on fire with flames rising 30 feet into the air and melting two traffic lights. Unofficial reports say 100 gallons of diesel fuel spilled and leaked into the sewer and the park waterway.
Streets were blocked off until cleanup was done. Traffic resumed at 5 p.m.
