Sprinklers helped save a Washington station from a fire, according to the National Fire Sprinkler Association.

The fire happened at around 4 a.m. Jan. 21 at a Chelan County Fire District No. 8 station in Entiat, according to an online post by the NFSA. Firefighters encountered heavy smoke from the apparatus bay as they responded.

That's when the sprinklers turned on and kept the flames to the station's locker area. Firefighters then were able to remove apparatus from the bay.

"The fire sprinklers prevented us from having much worse fire damage," Fire Chief Mike Asher told NFSA. “The station is a $2 million facility housing eight apparatus and equipment valued at about another two million.”    

The all-volunteer district's station was built in 2012. Sprinklers were installed in the firehouse to set a good example for the community, according to the NSFA.
