University Hospital, Newark, NJ, Gets Heavy Rescue

The University Hospital in Newark, NJ recent got a Rescue 1 heavy rescue to help them answer the approximately 5,000 calls it receives annually.

The University Hospital in Newark, NJ, operates EMS service and a heavy rescue unit that answers over 5,000 calls a year.  To help the hospital make those runs, it purchased a 20-foot, walk-around rescue unit built by Rescue 1 on a Spartan Metro Star cab and chassis.

The apparatus has seating for six occupants and a 10-inch raised roof. It is powered by a Cummins 450 hp engine and an Allison 3000EVS transmission. The body is constructed of aluminum and it has a curb-side roof access with a lift-up stairway. It has a 12-foot recess-mounted electric awning, a 15-foot Will-Burt light tower, R.O.M. roll-up doors, a 9,000-pound portable winch with three receivers, Hansen lighted grab rails and interior storage for a 28-foot ladder and a 14-foot roof ladder. It also has an absorbent compartment with an electric loader/dispenser, plus slide-out tool trays.
