Delivery: Perryville, KY, Top-Mount Pumper

July 7, 2022
Toyne Fire Apparatus built a custom top-mount pumper on a Freightliner chassis for the Perryville Fire Department.

Toyne Fire Apparatus has completed delivery of a fully customized top-mount pumper for the Perryville Fire Department (PFD). This Toyne Tailored Apparatus is replacing an older pumper that has been in service with the department for two decades. Now equipped with a modernized apparatus, PFD is ready to take the call.

Established in 1948, the Perryville Fire Department has provided fire protection and rescue services to the historic community of Perryville, Kentucky, for over 74 years. As the site of one of the bloodiest battles during the Civil War, Perryville is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

To protect lives and property in this important area of American history, the volunteer members of this department are highly trained to respond to many different emergencies. PFD tasked Toyne with building a new pumper to meet their operational needs, and Toyne delivered.

PFD’s new pumper is comprised of a highly capable 2-door Freightliner M2 106 chassis, and a custom, stall-built apparatus body that is made out of bolted painted stainless steel by Toyne.

The body has numerous storage options on the driver and passenger side of the apparatus for PFD firefighters to stow and retrieve vital equipment at a moment's notice. Quick access is possible with the pumper’s ROM roll-up doors, custom under-step storage, mounted tool board, mounted SCBA brackets, rear slide-out tray, and rear slide-in storage for ladders, pike poles, and hard suction hose.

For pumping operations, firefighters have a commanding view of the scene with pump panel controls located on an elevated platform in the center of the apparatus. The panel is equipped with an ICI SL Plus tank gauge to monitor the 1,000-gallon UPF tank. PFD crews can also regulate the flow of the 1,250-GPM Hale Qflo pump with a Fire Research Pump Boss pressure governor.

Powering this response-ready Toyne Pumper is a 360-horsepower Cummins ISL9 engine and an Allison 3000 EVS transmission.

“We were delighted to work with the Perryville Fire Department in building their first Toyne apparatus that’ll reinvigorate their response capabilities,” said Mike Schwabe, President of Toyne, Inc. “This pumper will allow them to better serve and protect their community, and we are proud to be a part of that.”

High Tech Rescue, Inc. (HTR) sold this highly capable Toyne Apparatus to PFD. Based out of Shelbyville, KY, HTR serves Kentucky and the Southern Half of Indiana.
