KENTON COUNTY, Ky. --
A controlled burn didn't stay that way in Kenton County on Wednesday morning.
News 5's Brian Hamrick said that property owners decided to burn a few small piles of debris in the 700 block of Bromley-Crescent Springs Road just before 9:30 a.m.
The fire soon spread toward six nearby vacant buildings, destroying five, including a 100-year-old farmhouse.
Three fire departments were called to help battle the fire, which was on the other side of a creek spanned by a bridge that couldn't hand the weight of fire trucks.
Firefighters told Hamrick that it was all they could do to keep the fire from spreading up a nearby hillside to the homes on top.
No injuries were reported. The Environmental Protection Agency is investigating.
