SACRAMENTO, Calif. --
A recording of radio traffic offers dramatic insight into a Sacramento house fire in which four firefighters were burned.
Tuesday morning's blaze on Stilt Court left Capt. Jeff Helvin, 39, with serious injuries, while three others were received lesser injuries, Capt. Jim Doucette said.
The recording released Thursday includes a "mayday" call and a discussion between a dispatcher and fire officials at the scene.
The firefighters entered the home and were on the second floor when the flames rapidly accelerated in what is known as a flashover.
Doucette said the group became stuck when the surging flames burned through their fire hose.
The residents of the house were not home.
