ASHLAND, N.H. --

The tow of Ashland thanked the firefighters and police who are credited with holding the town together during August's flash floods.

A standing ovation from members of the community Monday night to recognize the rescuers.

It's recognition for the work they did in early August, when flood water devastated the town.

Even the police chief said that night, the firefighters proved their strength.

The events of that night include saving the family was in an SUV that was swept down river. Firefighters pulled a mother and her son to safety, but there wasn't time to save her 7-year-old daughter.
