Ralston Fire Department was dispatched to a child injured by fireworks at 7:19pm on July 4th. A 13 year old child was swimming in a back yard pool when a large commercial type firework fell from the sky and exploded in the pool. The child was transported to Creighton Medical Center in serious condition with internal injuries to the right hip area. The child underwent surgery, and was in serious, but stable condition on Tuesday.
While investigating the source of the firework, commercial type fireworks were discovered in a trailer parked on the street in front of the residence. Bellevue Fire Investigator KC Bang, was called to assist with the investigation. A large amount of illegal commercial fireworks were discovered and Jeff Belmont, the owner of the trailer and residence was arrested and booked on storage of fireworks charges. A search warrant was obtained and an additional trailer and residence were searched.
Over 200 cases of highly explosives were discovered on the residence, in vehicles, and trailers. This is believed to be the largest firework discovery and confiscation in the State Fire Marshal
