WINDER, Ga. (AP) -- A lightning-sparked fire at a Barrow County elementary school destroyed its media center.

The Sunday night fire at Holsenbeck Elementary school also damaged administrative offices.

It took firefighters about two and a half hours to put out the fire, said Barrow Service Fire Chief Mitch Kitchens.

School officials spent Monday assessing the damage to the school. Principal Jeannie Oakley said she hoped the building could reopened in time for when children return from the summer break.

But Oakley said she was not sure if the school's library books, which were coated with soot, could be salvaged.
