Police Searching For Virginia Firefighter Charged With Child Abuse

The Portsmouth firefighter called in sick Friday and hasn't been seen since.
Police are searching for a Portsmouth firefighter charged with child abuse. The firefighter, along with the woman he lives with, were indicted by a grand jury Thursday on child abuse and sexual battery charges.

The firefighter called in sick Friday and hasn't been seen since. Officials believe that he may be in North Carolina and the woman is believed to be in New York.

The alleged incidents involve the couple's own children, as well as children the woman had from previous relationships. The grand jury indited the couple based on statements made by the two older children.

The names of the two are being withheld to protect the identities of the children who range in age from 2 to 16 and include both boys and girls.

Specifically, the 40-year old firefighter is charged with:

2 counts aggravated sexual battery

7 counts child cruelty

1 count indecent liberties

2 counts child neglect

The children's mother, 34, is charged with:

9 counts assault & battery

4 counts child cruelty

1 count child neglect

All the children are reported to be in good health and have been placed with family members.
