Chicago firefighters battled an extra-alarm blaze at several storefront buildings Thursday evening in the Back of the Yards neighborhood.

The fire was reported on the 4800 block of South Ashland Avenue at about 7 p.m., according to Chicago Fire media officials.

At least one of the buildings was reported by fire officials as the Garza Appliance resale store, officials said.

The fire was quickly escalated to a 2-11 alarm, which calls for additional firefighting apparatus to the scene. Officials said the roof of the main builing on fire collapsed.

Officials also called for an Emergency Medical Services Plan 1 response, which calls for at least six ambulances.

Witness at the scene said the fire appeared to have spread to about 5 storefronts in four separate buildings. The storefronts were under residential apartments.

There were no reported injuries.
