Firehouse.com will provide live streaming of the Firehouse World opening ceremonies and keynote addresses on Wednesday, starting at 11:30 a.m. EST, and 8:30 a.m. PT.
Robert Baird, deputy National Fire Director, Fire and Aviation Management, U.S. Forest Service, and Long Beach Firefighter Nick Kalt are the keynote speakers.
Baird will talk about “Pyro-terrorism,” which is the use of arson attacks to terrorize civilians and coerce the government to advance political objectives. The threat of igniting several massive wildfires would damage the region’s economy and endangers the population.
Kalt, a former Marine who recovered from injuries to don turnout gear will talk about the challenges of “Overcoming Adversity.”
"We understand that budgets are still tight for many departments and despite the increase in attendance, the messages that will be shared Wednesday morning n are important to share with all of the fire service," Firehouse World Vice President Ed Nichols said.
Also during opening ceremonies, attendees will preview a new wildland firefighter safey video produced by The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
The California State Firefighters Association will also announce this year's training officer of the year award.
