March 09--Firefighters running in the Gate River Run stopped to administer CPR to a "streaker" who had collapsed on the course, according to Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department personnel who responded to the scene.
"Streakers" are runners who have completed every River Run since 1978. There were 42 members of the group registered for this year's race.
Other first responders also stopped to help until Engine 13, which was just a few blocks away on Atlantic Boulevard, arrived with a defibrillator and firefighters were able to restore the runner's pulse.
The man was taken to Baptist Medical Center, the fire department said.
The firefighters who first administered CPR went on to finish the 15K race.
